Peperomia is an enormous genus of small plants, most of which stay under 30cm (12in). The leaves are usually thick and semi-succulent, which is why they cope so well with dry indoor air.
They look wildly different from one another. Some are trailing, some upright, some have watermelon-striped leaves and some are plain green.
What every Peperomia wants
Medium to bright indirect light and a free-draining mix. The thick leaves store water, so they want to dry out between waterings and rot quickly if they do not.
Because the root systems are small, Peperomia prefer small pots. An oversized pot holds wet soil the roots cannot reach, which is the usual way they are lost.
Nearly all Peperomia are non-toxic to cats and dogs.
