Spider plants earn their popularity honestly: they are tough, fast, non-toxic to cats and dogs, and they propagate themselves without any help from you.
What every Spider Plant wants
- Bright indirect light. Tolerates medium light; variegation fades in dim corners.
- Regular water, good drainage. They are thirstier than most beginner plants and store water in thick white roots.
- Slightly pot-bound is fine. They flower and produce more plantlets when the roots are snug.
Brown leaf tips
Extremely common and almost always a water quality issue. Spider plants are unusually sensitive to fluoride and chlorine in tap water. Let water stand overnight before using it, or use filtered water, and trim the brown tips off at an angle.
