Ficus is the fig genus, and it includes some of the largest and most popular indoor trees. Fiddle Leaf Figs, Rubber Plants and Weeping Figs are all Ficus, despite looking very different.
What every Ficus wants
Bright, indirect light and consistency. That second point matters more with Ficus than with almost any other houseplant.
They form their leaves for the conditions they are in, and cannot adjust quickly. Move a Ficus to a different room, turn it around, or change how often you water it, and it will often drop leaves for weeks afterwards. Pick a good spot and leave it there.
The sap
All Ficus produce a milky white sap when cut or damaged. It irritates skin and is toxic if swallowed, so wear gloves when pruning and keep the plants away from pets that chew.
